Why Pecan Island?

Louisiana Economic Development’s 25 August 2026 announcement described three advantages offered for the proposed Vermilion Parish launch facility: natural gas for power and fuel, room for expansion, and a Gulf Coast location suited to a range of launch trajectories.

That is the state’s stated rationale. It does not establish that the site is uniquely suitable, that permits have been granted, or that construction is complete. The same release described the company as working with state agencies on potential wildlife, fisheries and habitat effects.
