Event date: 2026-12-12 (day)

Vermilion Parish residents can plan to bring specified household hazardous waste to the parish Solid Waste Plant on Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the Police Jury's collection-day flyer, linked from its official website and checked October 23. The flyer requires identification showing Vermilion Parish residency and says commercial waste will not be accepted.

The notice gives a useful distinction for anyone sorting stored household products: some paints, automotive fluids and batteries are on the accepted list, while medicines, gas or propane cylinders, unlabeled material and anything leaking are excluded. It is a scheduled collection opportunity, not a general promise that every household item can be dropped off.

What the flyer accepts

The 2026 parish flyer lists used oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid and similar automotive-maintenance products; aerosols; latex- and oil-based paints, stains, paint thinners and solvents; cleaning products; pesticides, herbicides and insecticides; and household and automotive batteries. Tires must be off the rim.

Its recycling list includes aluminum, tin and steel food or beverage cans; paper such as newsprint, magazines, junk mail and cardboard; and plastics bearing recycling emblem 1 or 2. The flyer also reserves parish officials' right to reject materials they deem unacceptable.

What to leave out

The same flyer excludes medical waste and medicines; ammunition, flares, explosives and fireworks; household fire alarms and smoke detectors; gas or propane cylinders; and trash such as sinks, fixtures, floor tiles, siding and used appliances. Unlabeled or leaking materials are also excluded. The notice does not provide an alternative disposal route for those items.

For a question about a particular material, the flyer lists the Vermilion Parish Solid Waste Plant at 337-898-4338. That gives residents a way to check before the collection day rather than assume an item will be accepted.

Getting to the collection

The flyer's directions begin at U.S. Highway 167: turn west onto Louisiana Highway 696, travel about three-quarters of a mile, then turn north onto Birch Road. Continue to the end of the road, where parish personnel will direct participants. The flyer names the Solid Waste Plant but does not print a numbered street address.

The Police Jury's official website links the collection notice. Residents can use that notice and the plant's published phone number to recheck the schedule and acceptance rules before December 12. No completed collection or amount of waste collected is established by this advance notice.
