Palmetto Island State Park offers access to the Vermilion River without an overnight stay. Louisiana State Parks’ park page, checked September 16, 2026, lists a boat launch for river access and interior lagoons for canoeing and kayaking.
The state lists admission at $3 per person, with free entry for children age three and younger and adults 62 and older. Its posted daily gate hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; entrance-station staffing ends earlier. The park’s listed address is 19501 Pleasant Road, Abbeville.
For a shorter visit, the same page identifies the Cypress Trail as a 0.7-mile nature trail. It also lists picnic pavilions, a visitor-center complex and a water playground. The state says water playgrounds operate Tuesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Monday reserved for cleaning; it asks visitors to confirm operation with the park before traveling.
For overnight stays, the state lists six cabins, two described as ADA compliant, each sleeping up to eight. Cabin supplies include cookware, dishes, towels and linens; guests bring food and personal supplies. Reservations and current lodging prices are linked from the park page.
